Great News from our VBS Leader
Carrie Stewart, 2017 VBS Director here.
I just finished going through the registration forms for VBS, and I'm in awe of what is happening.
We have had 61 kids come to our Bible School. 61!! There were 46 the first night and 55 the second night. That means only 6 didn't come back (2 families)!
To put it into perspective, we had a total of 36 last year over the 5 nights. WOW!
These kids are coming from all over the Northland.
Tonight I talked to a mom whose husband is deployed and on his way to Kuwait. Her son came to VBS on Sunday, and on Monday morning he was pointing out God Sightings and couldn't wait until it was time to go back to what he called "God School".
That mom was SO happy to tell me that story.
We also have foster kids who see their parents only in supervised visits and kids who are raised by grandparents - grandparents who may be hurt by their own kid's choices and actions to cause the arrangement.
We have a family that had once been in the Family Promise program and spent a week living in the very rooms we’re using for VBS this week.
We have single moms and single dads trusting us with their kids and asking for our help in making these memories for their children.
We also have some tough situations. We have some kids that push boundaries.
We have some kids who are on the autism spectrum or have other diagnosed, but manageable, issues.
But they are all wonderful children of a wonderful God.
And they keep on coming. And we will keep showing them Jesus. The rooms are full, the crews are big, and they still keep coming. I've never seen so many 3 and 5 year olds in one place.
But to keep up this pace for 3 more days, we need your help.
We have to make sure that each of these kids is safe and supervised and picked up by the right person.
We need to fortify our Crew Leaders and help them get through the night. We're asking pretty much the impossible of them, and we need to get them help to lessen the load.
Our Station Leaders need help too. They have 15-20 kids at a time and 20 minutes to get through their lesson. An extra set of hands makes all the difference.
And the food team - God bless their hearts - they feed our families; they feed everyone who wants to it. It's the first thing that the kids get that tells them we care for them. What a great first impression.
And it tells the parents, "Go rest, or do whatever you need to do. We've got this." It's such an amazing gift that we give.
So, I'm pleading with you - come spend a night or two (or three) lending a set of hands for a few hours. Come and be a part of this ministry.
Come help us make sure that the 15 more kids who are registered but haven't yet come have a place to be and an adult to make them feel at home. Or the large family that will walk in tomorrow wondering tentatively what church is all about. Let's show them.
Call me and let me know how you can help. Seriously, pick up the phone and then show up tonight and check out the magic!
Do it for the kids, or do it for their families, or do it for yourself. I for one have been blessed many times over by the people here every night. Now it's your turn!
