Young at Heart

Young at Heart meets monthly for learning, laugher, sharing, prayer and fellowship. They often have picnics, field trips, and guest speakers at luncheons.

Past guest speakers include Pete Fullerton, who gave an update on the status of the renovation progress of KCI Airport and Aker Bol who talked about her journey as a Somalia refugee. Members have shared pictures and stories from their travels to the Holy Land and Mission Trips.  Some members play chair volleyball and attend chair yoga stretch and agility classes at the Church.

The purpose of Young-at-Heart is to provide Christian fellowship, entertainment, and activities among members of similar interests.
 
MEMBERS: 
​Any member of the sponsoring church, spouse or friend who has reached the age of fifty-five (55) or more, or who has retired, may be a member.  Non members and friends may be invited as guests.

 
 MEETINGS: 
  1. Regular meetings will be held at 10:00 AM on the first Thursday of each month unless cancelled or otherwise scheduled according to the wishes of the members.  
  2. All members will be encouraged to volunteer to coordinate, prepare, and make arrangements for a program or day trip and lunch location one month of each year.

GUEST SPEAKERS HAVE INCLUDED:

Retired Lt. Col. Joseph Pelham, who shared his experience during his 31 years of service in the Army.

Don Wolf, a well-known Kansas City commercial photographer. He talked about his Croatian heritage, his many trips there, and his role in starting and funding orphanages in Croatia.


Kathy Macken, Executive Director of Platte County Senior Fund. The goal of the Senior Fund is to provide services that will enable seniors to stay in their homes.

Ms. Lisa Waterbury spoke about her pilgrimage on El Camino de Santiago or “The Way of St. James” – following in the footsteps of thousands of medieval pilgrims through the beautiful Sierras of Havarre and Arogon.

EVENTS INCLUDE: Pot luck luncheons and dinners, attending North Winds Symphonic Holiday Concert,  tour of Strawberry Hill Museum and Cultural Center, and sing-a-longs of our old favorites hymns and songs.
